Johan Egerkrans is an illustrator and image maker. Since his debut twenty years ago, he has illustrated over a hundred books, both his own and others'. Egerkrans has a background in the world of computer games and role-playing games and a great fascination for myths, monsters and the supernatural, but also for dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals. Nordic essence (2013) is his debut book as an author and it was his big breakthrough. It is constantly being reprinted, has been translated and has also become a role-playing game. Other own titles include The Undead, Dragons and Norse gods.

Today, Johan Egerkrans is one of Sweden's leading illustrators and was awarded the Elsa Beskow plaque in 2021 for his collective output. During Avesta Art, images from Nordic essences are shown, where Johan Egerkrans has taken a deep dive into the rich folk beliefs of the Nordic region and presents a wide selection of essences. Around thirty of Egerkrans' images will be displayed in various locations in the Verket.
