(b.1970) Lives in Stockholm
Petra contributes with an installation consisting of photographic portraits and posters from the socialist women’s movement in Sweden, with a focus on developments up to the 1920s. The movement’s collective mobilizing and organizing gave women a powerful voice, and photography became a tool to negotiate politics and emphasize themselves as a group with political ambitions. Inside the old ironworks, you meet a man’s world. Through Petra’s work, women gain a presence, a voice and a place in the historical context, while still asking the question: What are women fighting for today?
The work was previously exhibited, among other venues, at the 2015 Venice Biennale. For the exhibition at Avesta Art, the posters have been supplemented with posters from the region.
