Martin Furnace Opera

The unique monuments that are the Martin furnaces are where the Martin Furnace Opera is performed. The opera is in three acts and we move between each act from the charging of the furnaces to the ingenious heating through the pipe system and finally to where the iron ingots are tapped.

The opera also mirrors life. The women, men, children, energy, joy and sadness are described with music, light, heat and film.

The music was written by Torbjörn Grass, the lighting is by Charlie Hellberg and steel worker Erik Mattson is the narrator in the film sequence A Time Filled with Life.
