The Iron Road
Target group: From Year 7
Duration: 2 hours
- To understand the process by which iron ore is transformed from raw material to finished product and how waste was handled in the early days of the ironworks.
- To understand how people lived during this time and how this influenced their conditions and values.
- To understand the important role discoveries play for technology, science, society and people’s living conditions.
After making a hypothesis on the process by which iron is produced from iron ore, we follow the Iron Road through the old ironworks and talk about what conditions were like for the workers. Then we think about whether or not our hypotheses were correct or if our wanderings gave us new insight and knowledge.
